28th February 2024, Hyderabad: As the job market continues to evolve rapidly, Higher Education Institutions must adapt to the major shifts in placement trends to ensure their students are well-prepared for success in their professional careers.

Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh, Campus Director, NMIMS Hyderabad, spoke to media present at the campus today about emerging trends in the recruitment process of corporates and the shift from traditional approaches.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has set ambitious targets for India’s higher education sector, aiming for a 50% Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by 2035. This vision involves enrolling an additional 26 million students and requiring improved investments in personnel, technology, and infrastructure. There is also a focus on enhancing education quality which aligns with industry needs, promoting research and innovation, and encouraging inclusivity.

According to a report by the World Economic Forum, the job market of the future is expected to undergo significant technological advancements. More than 85% of organizations are prioritizing the adoption of new technologies such as big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI). Digital platforms and e-commerce are expected to play a vital role in organizational operations, with 86% and 75% of companies respectively planning to incorporate them by 2027.

Speaking about the recent trends in placement and campus recruitments, Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh, Campus Director, NMIMS Hyderabad said, “Corporates today are increasingly seeking candidates adept in technology and AI tools with hands-on experience over traditional training approaches. Previously, companies invested resources and time in training fresh talent from institutes to match their specific requirements. However, now they expect candidates with immediate proficiency, practical skills, and familiarity with advanced technologies.”

He added that “Gone are the days when placements were about specialized expertise. Recruiters now value students who have a holistic understanding of business functions which include not only technical proficiency but also soft skills like impressive communication, a problem-solving mindset, and teamwork, topped by a confident personality.”

NMIMS Hyderabad plays a proactive role in addressing the changing trends in placement and follows a focused approach to help student placements. The campus has cutting-edge infrastructure equipped with the latest technologies and highly qualified faculty which help students be well-equipped for their professional journeys. Apart from providing them with knowledge of all the emerging technologies, the numerous clubs on campus give them enough exposure to hone their overall personal development.

The Placement Cell at NMIMS Hyderabad focuses on grooming students with the requisite technical and managerial skills. The institute places special emphasis on inculcating corporate values and skills required for complex decision-making, besides developing superior expertise on functional domains and garnering business knowledge. Conducting industry expert talks, skill development workshops, industrial projects, operational workouts, and training further makes them industry-ready.
