Prague, April 3, 2025: Every user regularly encounters errors in applications and websites. You click on something, expecting a certain behaviour and something that you don’t expect happens or nothing happens at all. The Czech start-up Latta.ai has announced the launch of its ambitious mission to repair the internet in an effort to combat this issue. The company uses AI to make free attempts to correct errors in projects registered on the GitHub platform for selected, popular open-source repositories. By taking this step, Lattai.ai endeavours to make a substantial contribution to the stability of the software and the quality of the code that is the foundation of the internet and thereby reduce the number of errors and non-functional code in applications. This free help is provided in the form of a generated repair suggestion, which administrators can subsequently either apply to the code, gain inspiration from, or they can deny the repair.
“Just like other programmers, we learnt from publicly available code created by other internet users when we were just starting out. We grew up on the good will of internet users, who were willing to share their knowledge and work with others, without demanding compensation. By taking this step, we want to thank this community and give something back,” Jakub Hájek, CEO of Latta.ai says.
Automatic repairs
The entire “internet repair” principle is based on monitoring issues reported on the GitHub platform. When creating software, programmers encounter challenges, which would take a considerable amount of time to resolve and this is why they typically visit the GitHub or similar platform, to see whether anyone from the global programmer community has already dealt with a similar issue. If the programmer finds the corresponding “repository”, he may use it for his requirements, but if he encounters errors in the code during testing, he reports these errors to the community by means of a so-called project “Issue”. Anyone can fix the error and the suggestion for the correction is subsequently approved by the original project authors.
This is the moment Latta enters the process, as it constantly monitors whether anyone has reported an error in any of the selected projects and subsequently attempts to fix them. The project administrators can accept the suggestion and make the change in code available to all users. The repair is then gradually distributed to software using the corrected open-source.
The Latta Company has established a website at https://latta.ai/ourmission, on which users can monitor how many issues Latta has publicly attempted to repair in real time and also offers links to the latest resolved issues.
Long-term impact on the internet
The internet is dependent on open-source technologies, which form the basis of many web applications and services and several studies and surveys show how extensively open-source software is used in web applications. For instance, a survey by the Red Hat Company in 2021 showed that 90% of IT leaders use open-source technologies for their infrastructure and applications.
This study confirms that open-source software is a crucial building block used by the modern internet and most web servers, databases, programming languages and frameworks are built on open-source technologies. This means that any improvement of and support for open- source projects has a direct and significant impact on the quality and stability of internet services, which are used by billions of people worldwide on a daily basis.
Marketing campaign with a permanent benefit for the community
Originally intended as a short-term marketing event, this initiative transformed into a long- term commitment the moment the project founders realised how significant the activity’s impact would be on open-source projects and the entire internet ecosystem. This is why they decided to permanently reserve part of their operating budget for providing support to the open-source community. Not only do they not plan to switch this function off, they intend to continue developing and improving it so that it has the greatest possible impact.
