Lady Luck’ and Fatherhood: Director Abhishek Pathak Reflects on 12 Years of the Drishyam Phenomenon

Sept 12: Making a successful film requires meticulous planning, a sharp script, and relentless execution. But for director Abhishek Pathak, driving one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated thriller franchises also took a steadying hand at home and a healthy dose of good fortune.

As the anticipation builds for Drishyam 3, Pathak recently reflected on the extraordinary 12-year trajectory of the franchise. While audiences know the movies for their tight writing and iconic plot twists, the director views the journey through a deeply personal lens. He credits the supportive presence of his wife, Shivaleeka Oberoi, and the timing of their growing family as his true good luck charms.

Reflecting on how far the project has come since its inception, Pathak shared an emotional milestone at the film’s trailer launch. He said, “This is a journey of 12 years. I think nobody had thought that we’d be standing here together after 12 years, and complete this journey of part 3. I am 39 today and in part 2, I married Shivaleeka and now in part 3, I have a daughter. I became a father. It is emotional, and Shivaleeka has been a part of it since Drishyam 2, giving me peace, giving me support. Filmmaking is intense, and she kept me sane. It is a great journey, a long journey.”

Pathak’s sentiment highlights the intense reality of high-stakes filmmaking. Where the pressure to deliver a worthy third installment could easily overwhelm, he credits his family life for providing the grounding and perspective needed to navigate the chaotic creative process.

With Drishyam 3 set to bring the story full circle, Pathak enters this next chapter not just as a seasoned director carrying massive box-office expectations, but as a father who believes his personal milestones have brought the franchise its true magic. Drishyam 3 releases in theaters on 2nd October 2026.
