SEOUL, South Korea – Sept 24 — BIOPLUS-INTERPHEX KOREA 2026 (BIX 2026), Korea’s largest biotechnology and pharmaceutical convention, will be held at COEX in Seoul from October 28 to 30. Supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, this year’s BIX will feature over 300 companies from around the world. Canada will participate as the Country of Honor, with a delegation of approximately 30 biotechnology and healthcare companies to Korea. The event will also feature a live demonstration of brain-computer interface (BCI) technology and programs highlighting key technologies and market trends in the bioindustry, including ‘Food as Medicine’.
Canada, this year’s Country of Honor, will participate in BIX’s major programs, including the exhibition, conference, and Open Stage sessions. The Canada Pavilion at COEX’s The Platz, will showcase the technologies and businesses of leading Canadian biotechnology and healthcare companies.
In particular, a Featured Session with Dion M. Kelly, Co-founder and CEO of Canadian BCI company Possibility Neurotechnologies, will be held at The Platz on October 30, the final day of the event. Kelly will deliver a presentation titled “The Future of Accessible Human-Technology Interaction: Bringing Brain-Computer Interfaces into Everyday Life” and demonstrate the company’s BCI technology on-site.
BCI technology analyzes signals generated by the brain and connects them with computers or external devices; its applications are expanding beyond healthcare and rehabilitation to include interaction between humans and digital devices. This feature session, titled “Experience BCI Today: Live Demonstration of Brain-Computer Interface Technology,” will introduce the current state of BCI technology and real-world applications.
The convergence of biotechnology and the food industry is also emerging as a major topic. The session titled “Food as Medicine – Unlocking the Next Frontier of Preventive Health through Biotechnology,” organized by the Bio Future Food Industry Council (BFFIC) of Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization (KoreaBIO), will explore a prevention-focused nutrition industry enabled by biotechnology and emerging new business opportunities. It will cover topics ranging from potential collaboration among the pharmaceutical, biotech, and food industries to the R&D, regulatory frameworks, and investment ecosystems needed to develop scientifically validated functional foods.
This year’s conference will focus not only on the technology but also on commercialization and changing market dynamics. It will address key issues facing biotech companies throughout their R&D and growth, ranging from new approaches to drug development to M&A strategies and decision-making at global pharmaceutical companies.
The keynote sessions will feature Sally Temple, Co-founder and Scientific Director of the Neural Stem Cell Institute (NSCI) and a world-renowned expert in stem cell and neurological disease research, and Stuart Cable, Global Head of Mergers & Acquisitions and Vice Chair at the international law firm Goodwin. On the first day, Temple will present “Human Stem Cells: Transforming the Fight Against Nervous System Diseases” and on the second day, Cable will speak on “When Big Pharma Comes Knocking.”
The exhibition hall will feature major domestic and international biotech and pharmaceutical companies, including Samsung Bioepis, Sartorius, Merck, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. The event will comprise a total of 600 exhibition booths, along with 30 conference sessions featuring more than 90 speakers. Through BIX’s exclusive business partnering program, participating companies will explore new collaborations and business opportunities.
