Aug 26: Asian stock markets recovered on Wednesday as falling oil prices eased inflation concerns and improved investor sentiment. Attention is now turning to Nvidia’s closely watched earnings report, which could influence global technology markets.

Brent crude prices fell more than 2% to around $86 a barrel as diplomatic efforts involving Iran and Oman raised hopes of safer shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Lower oil prices also helped push bond yields down, providing additional support for equity markets.

Major Asian markets moved higher, including Japan’s Nikkei 225, South Korea’s KOSPI, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and mainland Chinese indexes. Technology and semiconductor stocks were among the stronger performers.

Investors are closely watching Nvidia’s earnings for signs that demand for AI chips and data-centre infrastructure remains strong. A strong outlook could boost confidence in technology stocks, while weaker guidance could increase concerns about high valuations and heavy AI investment.

Lower oil prices could also help reduce inflationary pressure across Asia, particularly in economies that rely heavily on energy imports. This could support consumer spending and business activity.

Despite the positive market reaction, investors remain cautious. US inflation data, interest-rate expectations, developments involving the Strait of Hormuz and Nvidia’s results will remain key factors for global markets.
