RVNL Bags INR 2,977 Crore NMDC Project for a State-of-the-Art Iron Ore Handling and Blending Facility at Visakhapatnam

New Delhi, June 24: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited  a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, has received the Letter of Award from NMDC Limited, another Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Steel for execution of the prestigious “Setting up of Buffer Stockpiles and Blending Yard” project at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, at a total project cost of about ₹2,977 crore.
 
The project envisages the development of a state-of-the-art iron ore handling system comprising buffer stockpiles and blending yards along with integrated civil, material handling and railway infrastructure. Designed with a handling capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum (10 MTPA), the facility will facilitate blending of iron ore to achieve the desired grades required by domestic and international customers and ensure compliance with quality specifications.
 
RVNL will be responsible for end-to-end execution of the project, from concept to commissioning, encompassing engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing and associated activities. The project is scheduled to be completed within 42 months and will lead to development of 472 hectares of area.
 
The proposed modern iron ore logistics hub will provide an efficient ecosystem for storage, blending and movement of iron ore and is expected to play an important role in supporting NMDC’s growing production and evacuation requirements, capacity expansion plans and enhancing India’s ability to cater to both domestic and global iron ore markets.
